One popular suggestion is to make refinancing easier.
How? The free market has a limited appetite for more home refinances because so many homes are underwater and bank standards for lending are so high.
Libertarians and conservatives want less government intervention into the housing market, not more. All the government intervention up till now has done little good, perhaps has done more harm than good.
The LAT says: “Mark Zandi, an economist who has advised the Obama administration, suggests making it easier for homeowners to refinance mortgages at today’s extremely low rates. The idea would be to eliminate charges that currently make it too costly for some people to refinance. He also advises changing immigration policies so that foreign students with advanced degrees find it easier to stay in the U.S.”
